Understanding Emotions

UNDERSTAND EMOTIONS
Emotions or Feelings are strong, complex internal responses involving bodily changes that prepare us for action. They are sometimes helpful and at other times hurtful. They come in positive and negatives; they are not evil, and certainly not holy. Emotions can make you laugh an hour and cry the next. Not wanting them doesn’t stop them from coming, and wanting them does not make them come. They are apt to quit on us when we need them the most and flare up when we wish they would go away. The truth is we are always going to have emotions and it’s not a sin to have them. It’s when we follow them that we often get into trouble. But I believe through the power of the Holy Spirit, you and I can learn how to recognize our feelings and realize where they are taking us. Then by God’s grace, we can learn to manage our feelings instead of letting them manage us.Enjoy yourself in their presence but don’t get stupid, many women are in wrong relationships because their decision to love is based on feelings.

Feelings are part of our soulish realm, we are a SPIRIT (the place where God himself lives), we have a soul and we live in a BODY. Our SOUL is the intangible area between our spirit and our physical body. The SOULis made up of our MIND, WILLand FEELINGS or EMOTIONS - the soul tells what we think, what we want, and how we respond about particular issues. And of these three areas of the soul, (the mind, the will & the feelings) it’s our feelings that get start up the fastest and can lead us into temptation the quickest.  Once our feelings get stirred up they can quickly deceive our mind. After this happens, the voice of our conscience, which operates from our spirit, is denied its normal standard of judgment. In other words, our God given inner voice of insight and understanding becomes drowned out by the cries of our feelings. In this unstable state we don’t know God’s views for what we should and shouldn’t do. As a result we commit to things we don’t have to commit to, we quit doing things that require us to remain a part of, and do things that damage our lives.

The success you have in soul management determines the degree of success you have in life management; God created us to be in control of our emotions to walk in His ways, your emotions should never control you – Truly as believers, it is God’s greatest desire that you and I progressively learn how to be led by His Spirit. However there is a powerful enemy that stands in the way of seeing this take place. That enemy is our emotions or feelings. Satan is the most powerful enemy externally but internally, it’s our feelings that give us some of the biggest problems.Negative words produce negative thinking, which produces negative emotions, Adam and Eve knew what God said regarding the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. You need to understand that what you give your attention to; it will birth a desire for that thing of its kind, when you think all men are liars you are going to miss every potential man God will bring your way. When we follow our feelings instead of following God’s spirit, we are living the life of the flesh, and this keeps us out of God’s will. Those who obey their human nature cannot please or satisfy or be acceptable to God, (Romans 8:8); now this doesn’t mean God doesn’t love us. What does it mean that He is not satisfied with nor will He accept fleshy behavior.

VARYING FEELINGS FROM DISCERNMENTS
Feelings are of the flesh, they are shallow and constantly subjected to change, and discernment knows the mind of God in the midst of anything. This is given by the Holy Spirit who lives in the inside of us. It is so important that you relate with a person who will help you achieve the best in the heavenly affairs, someone who is standing in the Lord and moving to have more of God’s Spirit than going out with someone who draws you from the throne of grace – remember what James 4:8 says - draw near to God and He will draw near to you.

We should live our lives by discernment, for the spirit of the LORD who lives in the inside of us gives us wisdom and the knowledge to understand the person we should go with and He makes us skillful in our relationship to keep it alive though some of us become over spiritual by keeping the other party waiting for God to answer and eventually when we come back to start up the relationship, we find that the person has already moved on, in other words you missed the time of your visitation. If God doesn’t say a thing may be implying keep straight ahead, God will not see you step into snare without telling you or even stopping you. God is never happy when we accommodate things that do not contrary help us grow in holiness. You may read numbers 22:9-33
